Collaboration with Ssangyong Cement (Singapore) Ltd.To study the long term behavior of Portland Blast Furnace Slag Cement (PBFC) concrete, particularly the creep and shrinkage of medium to high strength concrete test specimens. Properties studied include compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, static and dynamic moduli of elasticity, ultrasonic pulse velocity, three-month creep and shrinkage and complete stress-strain curves of concrete including the variation of the transverse strain. Porosity studied include water absorption and porosimetry test.

Collaboration Project with University of Michigan, USA. To identify the common types of joints and to determine experimentally the failure modes of these joints. To develop mechanistic models to predict their response. To undertake computerized parametric analysis to evaluate the influence of various parameters and hence to identify the range of each parameter to optimise the structural performance of these joints, To develop analysis and design guidelines for ferrocement bolted connections. To check the applicability of the usual strength theory for conventional reinforced concrete to ferrocement, and to identify a method suitable for the development of simple design charts.
